    Every family has its quirks, whether it’s Uncle Bob’s sexist comments, or Aunt Dorothy's unsolicited advice, or navigating the picky eaters at the kids’ table. Managing these "fun" little nuances can often take more than a stiff drink—though that helps, too.

  3. Perfection Pressure:
    Social media has convinced us that every holiday needs to look like a Hallmark movie. Spoiler alert: nobody’s life looks like that, and chasing that ideal is a surefire recipe for burnout. Let's save those for our own holiday entertainment, not the experience we're striving for.

For me, I’ve learned that planning doesn’t have to be about control—it’s about clarity. One year, I completely forgot about dessert. Instead of panicking, I grabbed a box of brownie mix, threw it together, and served it with whipped cream. You know what? Everyone loved it, and I realized perfection wasn’t the goal—connection was.

  • Create a menu and shopping list early.

One year, we decided against the traditoinal Christmas Dinner and now have more of a potluck style, and the only food I cook is my infamous Rosemary Herb Pork Tenderloin with Hawaiian rolls and an assortment of fun condiments to fit all the various tastebuds. Everyone looks forward to it, it's simple, takes less than 30 minutes, and no on is stressed out. That small change has created so much space for us all to be truly just BE.

  • Being present in the moment instead of worrying about the details.
